Radio has been a global media tool since its invention and it has been widely used by organizations and companies to communicate with their stakeholders. Millions of listeners around the world are always kept captivated with moving playlists and hot debates on topical social issues. Scores of musicians have had their careers launched on Radio but Television and print media have been preferred as a advertising medium by companies. With the birth of new media comprising of internet, Radio has been forced to take a back seat hence listeners are always tuned in and the number of listeners is ever rising.

Radio has been underrated, not given the recognition it deserves, always coming second best to Television and Print media. Many musicians and DJ`s have used Radio as a platform to promote their music and I think it is about time Radio is seen and treated as a power resource, a platform to fame and a major powerhouse within the media fraternity.
yes Radio s the way forwad though it was the way in the past its still a good competent media tool that is fighting for its stand in the media world.as it competes with commercial media tools like the internet.tv and newspaper, radio sti remains the most relevant media tool to specifically target a specific segment of a market.so radio was relevant in the days of penny-press and radio is still relevant in the days of facebook and twitter.
ReplyDeleteTrue that, but Radio has taken a back seat rather than be at the forefront of media as it should be.
ReplyDeleteI love me some radio, teamYF. Radio is a platform that makes learning fun, we get to know various things throught it like; music, current events both national and internation. The wonderful thing about it is that it is mobile, I can listen to it anywhere I want to, so true radio is underated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Radio has not been given the attention it deserves and it counts as very important to a lot of peoples's lives as it is the only medium with which they can receive information
ReplyDeleteRadio has been overlooked and underrated in recent years, but the truth is that it is one medium you can rely on for entertainment and information
ReplyDeleteYes radio is underrated in the country you find that most of the time television and print media wins. I think the problem now lies with the Djs they all sound the same to me. Lack of originality.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the frequency you listen to, people are missing out because in the radio there is more information shared.
ReplyDeleteRadio is not not underated for it is still exists and at the end of the day no one is compelled to listen to it its all about choice at the end of the day
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Mr Nzolo, radio is underated.Social media has taken up the attention from radio. Reason being its quick and interesting all the time as with radio not always will you find something interesting to listen to.
ReplyDeleteyes true that because like radio is still a leading communication tool ever besides internet, everyday we wake up and listen to radio even if you are in the taxi you still listen to radio and hear sum information even un internationally.!
ReplyDeleteRadio has long been into existence and being used as a communicating tool/ platform. The fact that we are living in a millennium society we have transformed from the usage of radio in today’s society. Now radio is more interesting and interactive.
ReplyDeleteThe reason radio is not that recognised it's because of the internet including social networks. People don't have the time to listen to radio instead they prefer socialising online but definitely it shouldn't be underrated because it plays a huge role in media too.
ReplyDeleteRadio has given many stars a platform to get to where they are, but sadly times are changing; digital media is taking over and people need to get their brands out there fast...and radio is just not keeping up with the pace
ReplyDeleteI think people tend to undermine media now because digital media has been popular but in the past radio was the power of source of communication.
ReplyDeleteI personally think radio its loosing its touch because the social media is taking over now, but the radio is still playing the huge role.
ReplyDeleteRadio is not loosing its touch because of social media, think of artists like Zahara who burst into the scene because of getting major airplay
DeleteThere is no way that radio is not recognized, there are people who still listen to radio and prefer it more than print media.
ReplyDelete@ Katlego, true that but it does not get the same recognition in terms of advertising andrevenue
Deletei agree with you, television has taken over when it comes to advertising and advertising on television is far more expensive compared to an ad that is on the radio. I believe that a radio has its own advantages provided it is not compared to the television.
ReplyDeletei totally disagree with you Miss Songo, millions of South Africans listen to Radio on daily basis cause radio does not repeat content or shows it is always fresh.
ReplyDeleteI am where I am today because of listening to the radio. Everyday, I listen to the radio. I think it is way better than sitting the whole day and be a couch potato who watches TV. Radio makes you informed and the best thing about it is that you can get your work done while listening. However, I hope they bring more educational programs so that we as the listeners can benefit more; rather than them putting a voice over artist who will be talking nonsense the whole time. Anyway, my opinion.
ReplyDeleteRadio have no real place in media today. people are largley interesred in televesion beacuse they want to see and hear things not just hear things. imagine a live radio broadcast of soccer and radio soupies where characters go as far as saying aloud what they are thinking because there is no visual. Radio is a better plartform only for blind people.
ReplyDeleteNo mr Mashatola, Radio is a great plartform to fame for musicians and it has also been a great source of information to people
DeleteTrue that Mr Nzolo, radio caters for musicians mostly because people want to hear music not see it.
DeleteTrue that radio it is underrated but it is understandable why what i am saying that it does not have much advantages like television does and there's no referencing back to the message. other forms of media are interactive but radio is just impersonal and not much demonstrative (which advertisers wants and radio can not offer that)
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point that radio is underrated because I myself do not listen to it, I don't even have a favorite radio station. Radio has never been relevant to me and I only know a few people who actually love radio and tune in to it every hour. It is a good platform to use for many reasons but lacks a mass audience.
ReplyDeleteit lacks mass audience as there is not enuf attention put there in order for people to be able to take good notice of it
ReplyDeleteWell, i will actually have to go in-hand with your words. Radio is indeed a platform for organisations to communicate with their stakeholders, Millions of listeners around the world are always kept captivated with moving playlists and hot debates on topical social issues that's true, great angle there!!!
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you Mr Radio should be seen and treated as power resource even though it lacks mass audience
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you on the fact that radio has a massive audience but from my perspective point of view, radio has been put in its place because it does not provide sufficient information compared to its counterparts, the likes of television, internet etc. For example, majority of consumers prefer buying products they know or have seen not the ones they have heard about on some radio.
ReplyDeleteWhat is more important... The pictures of the message or the message itself?
DeletePictures together with the message are most important than the message itself.
DeleteFair enough, but Radio is not only an advertising medium but a tool where musicians get their bread buttered and a platform for organizations to project their voices
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, radio I think is used more than TV because old people prefer listening to the radio and not TV and I am finding that a lot of young people (mostly males) prefer radio over other mediums because you can do other things while listening to radio unlike a TV where you have to sit still in order to see the pictures because it does not only require you to listen. The same thing goes for the internet and newspapers you have to give them attention because you have to read which some people are lazy to do.
ReplyDeleteVery harsh words I must say when its being said that "RADIO is being put in its place". Which place is that? if it has to be put in "It's" place then it should be put on NUMBER1 as it is the most used, known and preferred. Its uses the functions of our well-being, not just the eyes but teaches us to listen attentively, understand properly AND things would actually get done while LISTENING and not SITTING WATCHING. If we could compare now and then and how much progress the was with just radio and how it made people to not be lazy yet being updated with what is happening all over the country, world and being available to you in a language that you would understand. It is much better now because we know more languages so we can tune in ANY station.
ReplyDeleteRadio is being put Back because it has no pictures, no color, yet the thing that matters is the message being given and voices that tell/pass those messages heard.
The thing i love most about Radio and listening it boosts a persons personality not IMAGE.
The is so much that radio has done and still doing for us... It is not being appreciated.
Strong words and I do like to say that I fully agree with you, because many people underestimate the power of Radio because it has no pictures and tend to forget about the message being conveyed.
Deletewe no longer see Radio as a communication tool anymore but rather a source of entertainment. we no longer believe something because we heared it on a radio but we tend to believe it when we see it on Television. so I personally think Radio has somehow lost one of its functions
ReplyDeleteand radio is so informative. we must go back to basics and take radio seriously again. the likes of Dj Fresh are still making radio sound ever so crisp and fresh i think radio is still an excellent industry to work in
ReplyDeleteBoitumelo I second that!
ReplyDeleteI believe that radio has a major impact in people's lives. In rural areas not everyone has access to television but they get information via radio, so I think it needs to accredited for what it does for people out there. I personally spend most of my time listening to the radio, at least I can still do my school work listening to it, it doesn't destruct me at all.
i think that people have sidelined radio because technology has taken over our lives by producing great gadgets that are much more convient to use .but i still belive that radio is the best platform for communication and it still deserves recognition
ReplyDeletewe no longer see Radio as a communication tool anymore but rather a source of entertainment....that is so true
ReplyDeleteRadio is still a communication tool beacause they have news bulletins every hour
DeleteI agree with you, radio I think is used more than TV because old people prefer listening to the radio and not TV and I am finding that a lot of young people (mostly males) prefer radio over other mediums because you can do other things while listening to radio unlike a TV where you have to sit still in order to see the pictures because it does not only require you to listen. The same thing goes for the internet and newspapers you have to give them attention because you have to read which some people are lazy to do.i also second that ...aint no body got time for that....so radio radio turn up
ReplyDeleteI agree with you radio has been underrated and yet is also one of the most powerful communication tools in media. I think it is time that it gets the recognition its deserves.
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly, Radio is listened by millions around the country
DeleteThe birth of new media has overtaken our need in radio, and since radio only caters for one sense being hearing, television on the other hand has both hearing and seeing...with that all said radio will always serve a purpose in our lives.
ReplyDeleteRadio is a good and very effective medium when targeting people in the lower LSM's. Especially those that are live in rural areas.
ReplyDeleteThats not entirely true, because many rich people listen to it every morning in their cars when they go to work
DeleteWell i have to agree with to some point but truth is, Radio is slowly dying and the is no duot about that. New medai has taken over and its time to accept that and move on.
ReplyDeleteNew media has its own platforms and channels but Radio caters for everyone
DeleteI radio is a good and perfect and it is an advantage to people who can't hear and to people who can hear it is considered as a second choice because many people have the access to radio but they are not using that access effectively. I think radio can be a source that can be used more n more often because its free and many people like free things lol anyway for me radio is a best media and I"m looking forward to as I"m a producer that the channel thank you.
ReplyDeleteI think radio must be easy to access because radio is more affordable and you can have it in your cell as people of our generation have expensive phones. Listening to radio in your phone can have more advantage to know what is going on in the world and you do not have to sit down and pay more attention as you in T.V. You can listen to radio while you driving so that you can hear about roads traffic.
ReplyDeleteyes Radio s the way forwad though it was the way in the past its still a good competent media tool that is fighting for its stand in the media world.as it competes with commercial media tools like the internet.tv and newspaper, radio sti remains the most relevant media tool to specifically target a specific segment of a market.so radio was relevant in the days of penny-press and radio is still relevant in the days of facebook and twitter.
ReplyDeleteThe power of radio is one that is under-rated, truly speaking radio is the most powerful medium that can reach even the most remote areas.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely, Radio is the most powerful medium
Deleteyes mr Xesi radio is a massive communication outlet especially now with the modifications of podcasts and internet radio, i could start up my own radio station with the right following, like the likes of lars berenroth who hosts a well known radio station internationally for deep house lovers and alike
ReplyDeleteThats a great point you`ve touched MR Masina, although there has been birth of new media, Radio has remained a massive tool for communication
Deletei personally believe that radio is playin a major role in our lives, simply because yuo get intouch with what is happening out there on the go. most of the time people are on the road and depend on the radio for kept update
ReplyDeleteexactly, thats why Radio has remained a massive media tool
Deletei agree with you radio is one of the best medium and it has been there for so many years in informing us and keeping us entertained.
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly, Radio has been there for many years giving us all the information we need
DeleteRadio is indeed one of the biggest medium because we learn a lot from it and it keeps us updated and informed about the latest things happening in our country.
ReplyDeleteThats true so i dont know why it does not get the recognition it derseves
DeleteThats true Peace
ReplyDeleteIts true radio is slowly dying because of the new technologies we now have..It is mostly used in the rural areas now
ReplyDeletethats not true, there are stations that are only in the urban areas
Deletetrue radio is a powerful medium...
