Radio DJ`s are prominent figures in the South african entertainment industry and are well respected within the media fraternity. With stations like Metro FM who boast household names in the industry like DJ Sbu, Glen Lewis T`bo Touch and the likes they have to fork out large amounts of money every month to keep the prominent figures within their studios. Radio DJ`s have 1 of the few relaxed jobs in the world with their shows airing for 3-4 hours a day but that does not mean thir salaries are as short as their working day, Dj Sbu was reportedly earning a huge salary of R200 000 while still doing the breakfast show at YFM. The likes of Fresh and Gareth Cliff who are doing the brekfast and drive time shows respectively on 5fm are also rumored to earning big bucks for their 3 hour shows.

Millions of listeners around the world are always kept captivated with moving playlists and hot debates on topical social issues. Scores of musicians have had their careers launched on Radio but Television and print media have been preferred as a advertising medium by companies. With the birth of new media comprising of internet, Radio has been forced to take a back seat hence listeners are always tuned in and the number of listeners is ever rising.

Radio has been underrated, not given the recognition it deserves, always coming second best to Television and Print media. Many musicians and DJ`s have used Radio as a platform to promote their music and I think it is about time Radio is seen and treated as a power resource, a platform to fame and a major powerhouse within the media fraternity.
